Werder Bremen of Germany striker, Joseph Akpala, has expressed his readiness to justify his place as the Super Eagles engage Mexico in a friendly next week.
Akpala, who was invited as a replacement for injured AFCON 2013 high goal banger, Emmanuel Emenike, told The Eagle Online that he has been hungry for success with the national team.
His words: “I have been very thirsty to play again for the national team and now that the opportunity is here, I want grab it with both hands.
“I had a good game against France in Paris when Shaibu Amodu was in charge and I hope to give my very best if I’m fielded against Mexico.
“The Mexicans are a great side in world football but I believe the Eagles as African Champions should be accorded some respect.”
Akpala was with FC Brugge of Belgium before he moved on to Werder Bremen.
Akpala said he will storm the Eagles camp early in order to have enough time to prepare for the friendly.
“I want to be a good host of the Super Eagles in Germany because I play professional football and arriving the camp early would be ideal for me,” he said.
