Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has called on security agencies to be on the look out for people or politicians wanting to truncate the country’s democracy by threatening to form a parallel government if they lose the forthcoming general election.
Akpabio, who made the call Tuesday when the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo, urged security agents to place such politicians on surveillance to stop them from carrying out their threat.
He described such as anti-democratic tendency.
He lamented that most achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan were subsumed in false propaganda by the opposition party and hoped the next general election would be anchored on tangible achievements by different political parties.
The governor, who congratulated Abba on his recent appointment, said his track record has been impressive.
He thanked President Jonathan for the appointment and expressed the belief that leadership comes from God and his appointment designed by God.
Akpabio said Abba’s visit has shown his determination to ensure credible and peaceful elections, where no lives in the state would be lost.
He disclosed that the state is always peaceful and that the state is not an attractive destination for criminals because of the joint corroboration among security chiefs.
Abba hinted that he visited the state to discuss with zonal officers from Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers and Ebonyi States to see the efforts they have made to change the attitude of all police officers in applying the ethical and valued policies in the force.
He explained that his visit was to see the efforts to change policing strategy and intelligence policing to ensure democratic laid down policing, saying that he would seize the opportunity to discuss and interact with political parties leadership.
Abba applauded Akpabio for the numerous assistance he has given to the state police through the building of a Mobile Police Base in Uyo,provision of fleet of patrol vehicles, provision of bullet proof vests, communication gadgets, among others, and assured the governor that the officers men of the police force will put in their best to have credible elections next month.
In another development, Abba has commissioned 30 patrol vehicles equipped with communication gadgets and two armoured cars donated by the Akwa Ibom State Government to the police in the state.
Commissioning the vehicles at the Government House Banquet Hall grounds, Uyo, Abba said the patrol vehicles would reduce crime with at least two vehicles in every street and town in the state.
He called on the state police command to ensure that crime was brought to its minimum.
Assuring that every person in the state would feel safe and secure, he then promised the state government of the readiness of the police to tackle crime both in the state and in the country.
Governor Akpabio remarked: “This gesture by our state government to the police force is to deepen our cooperation and I am happy to note that the Police Force has assisted our state in ensuring the safety of every Akwa Ibom person.
“I must use this opportunity to thank the public for cooperating with the Police Force in tackling crime in the state.”
Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, Gabriel Achong, who had thanked the Governor for his laudable contributions to the police force, stressed that the vehicles would create expansion and intelligence policing strategy in the state, pledging their commitment to ensuring peace and security of the state.
