As part of security measures put in place for the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow, SCotland, only passenger and military planes will be allowed to fly over the city.
Emergency service helicopter would also be allowed to operate.
The Europe Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria learnt on Tuesday that a prohibited cylinder of air space has been put in place in Glasgow.
To this end, passenger, military and medical helicopters can only fly in the area up to 6,000 ft (1,829m).
NAN gathered that any aircraft which enters the zone without permission could be intercepted by a military aircraft such as a Typhoon and be met by police on landing.
According to Commander Robin Stedman of the Royal Air Force, the restricted air space is to provide a buffer “so we have time to take action if something is flying in.
“It could be someone lost or having problems with navigating equipment – that’s what I think is going to be the kind of incident we are responding to.
“There’s no expectation that we are going to be responding to a threat.”
Steadman said that RAF personnel will be working 24 hours a day, seven days a week until August 7, a day after the expiration of the airspace restrictions.
In a related development, security has been beefed up at all the venues of the games.
The Scotland police had engaged the services of private security companies to complement its role of providing safety throughout the games.
While the police will be responsible to security, the private companies will provide stewarding staff at venues and sites of the games.
NAN reports that the opening ceremonies of the games is billed for July 23.
