The National under 17 female football team, the Flamingoes, on Friday played a goalless draw with Nassarawa Amazons Football Club of Lafia in a friendly match.
The match, played at the astro-turf pitch of the FIFA Goal Project at the package B of the National Stadium, could not produce any goal.
The two teams displayed brilliant performance in the first half but failed to utilise their scoring chances.
On the resumption of the second half, both teams played very well but could not register any goal in the game.
Speaking to journalists after the match, the head coach of the Flamingoes, Bala Nikyu, said he was not expecting to see many mistakes at this stage.
Nikyu said: “We can never be 100 per cent sure of what we have, and after the previous friendly match we made some correction, after this match I will still correct some mistakes.
“There were still some mistakes that I am not expected to see but it is good that I am seeing them now so that we can work on them.
“Our players performance is above average, I need to work on their composure on the ball, I want to see them playing with command and confidence.
“I want them to understand the tactical aspect of the game.”
On his part, Christopher Danjuma, the head coach of Nassarawa Amazon of Lafia FC, said he was happy that his team was able to compete with the national team.
Danjuma said: “It was a great game for their level they were able to stand their ground, they have a good physique, good height, which is good for them.
“Goal scoring is not about struggle but about creating chances and taking them accordingly.
“I will advice the national team to remain focussed for the World Cup because they have a good set of players in the team.
“The coach has done a great job we need to back him with prayers.”
It should be recalled that the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women World Cup will hold from September 30 to October 21 in Jordan.
Nigeria is grouped alongside with Brazil, England and the 2008 champions, Korea DPR, at the group stage
The flamingoes first match is against Brazil on October 1.
