Acting Inspector General of police, Solomon Arase, on Wednesday promised to provide the highest level of professional leadership to the Force.
Arase gave the pledge after he formally assumed duties as the acting IGP at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
This was after a brief hand over ceremony by the former IGP, Suleiman Abba.
The Police Force, Arase assured Nigerians, will deploy resources and potent assets to deal firmly and decisively with deviants in the society.
He expressed the firm optimism that the lost glory of the Police Force will be restored.
According to him: “It is my firm conviction that if the quality manpower potentials of the Force are blended with purposeful and motivational leadership at strategic level, the lost primacy of the force within the internal security architecture of our country can and will be restored.”
The acting IGP pointedly told the men and officers of the Police force to be ready, individually and collectively, to hold their duties sacred, perform their functions with pride and exhibit the highest level of professional excellence in all their official engagements.
He further charged them to remain accountable to the citizens and relate with them as true public servants with courtesy and within the dictates of the rule of law.
Arase stated that aside the police routine duties, which must be delivered, two other major national assignments, the conduct of the inconclusive governorship elections in Abia, Imo and Taraba States and the presidential, Governorship and National/state Assembly inauguration ceremonies, must be delivered.
In his remark earlier, Abba expressed confidence that “Arase will do much better for the Force than he met it”.
He thank President Goodluck Jonathan for the opportunity given to him to serve and for easing him out at this time.
