The former President of the Ijaw Youth Council and leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, has described a man who claimed to be a founding member of the dreaded Jama’aful Ahlul sunna wal Liddawati wal Jihad, popularly known as Boko Haram, Sheikh Haliru, as a fraud.
Dokubo-Asari, in a telephone interview with The Eagle Online on if he knows Haliru who mentioned him in his confession as having trained together in Libya, said that the ‘born again’ Boko Haram member was only out to dupe the government and confuse Nigerians.
He told The Eagle Online: Is it because of that 419 report on the Internet that you are calling me?
“I don’t know any Sheikh Haliru.
“He is fraud, a 419.
“He wants to confuse the public and dupe the government.”
Haliru had, in an interview, alleged that some prominent Nigerians were sponsoring the activities of Boko Haram.
Those he named included the former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida; a former military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari; and a former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
He alleged that Babangida contracted him and others for the riots that ravaged the North in the 80s and 90s, adding that courtesy of funds made available by the prominent Nigerians he was able to get training in Libya and Pakistan.
He also alleged that the Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, is one of the sponsors of Boko Haram.
