Details have emerged of how the news of the “revival” of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, gained grounds on Monday, hours before the burial.
While grave diggers were busy at work, a band of prophets arrived at the house of Audu seeking to pray for his revival.
With the family home in Ogbonicha, Kogi State swarming with hordes of sympathisers who were weeping and signing the condolence registers, the prophets insisted that the former governor of Kogi State was not dead.
When some of the sympathisers saw that the family was not acceding to the request for the prophets to “revive” Audu, they broke down the door to the room where his remains were kept.
This gave joy to some of those present at the country home of the politician and led to the quick spread of the news that he had been revived.
In fact, the news spread as far as the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission where senior management staff of the electoral agency were meeting over the development.
This was said to have led to a temporary stoppage of the meeting.
The meeting, however, reconvened after the burial of Audu.
INEC later said it was yet to be officially notified of the death of Audu.
The Commission’s spokesman, Nick Dazang, said until this was done by the APC, Audu remains alive.
It was also understood that this was why Audu was buried earlier than the 4pm announced by the Kogi State Government.
The state Governor, Captain Idris Wada, had early on Monday said the burial would be delayed until 4pm to allow more family members, friends and sympathisers attend the ceremony.
Audu was, however, buried at 1:32pm when the pressure became unbearable for the family members.
