Gurara communities to benefit from commercial farming activities at dam site – FG

The Federal Government of Nigeria has said the communities surrounding Gurara Irrigation Project in Kaduna State will benefit largely from the commercial farming activities at the site.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Musa Istifanus, made this known over the weekend while inspecting some of the commercial farms at the Gurara Irrigation site.

Istifanus said the communities have been cooperating with the Federal Government of Nigeria since the beginning of the project, thus they should also benefit from the activities of the commercial farmers.

Istifanus said the purpose of the inspection was to get firsthand information and to see the extent to which the commercial farmers are taking off at the site.

He said government would not relent on its efforts to ensure that the commercial farmers and the host communities benefit maximally from the project.

In his remarks, the Dallatun Jere, Alhaji Umar Abubakar, who spoke through a former Commissioner of Poverty Alleviation in Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdurahman Ibrahim Jere, said the communities would exhibit maximum cooperation with the Government and the commercial farmers to achieve the food security goal of government.
