Nigerian troops on Friday recaptured the strategic town of Gwoza in Borno State.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, confirmed this at an ongoing press conference in Abuja.
President Goodluck Jonathan had earlier in the week vowed that the town will be recaptured by Friday.
Air attack on the Boko Haram insurgents occupying the town started late on Wednesday and was sustained throughout Thursday.
The kidnapped Chibok girls are believed to be held in the town.
More details soon.
