An early morning fire on Friday destroyed goods worth millions of naira at the popular Singer Market located on Ado Bayero Road in Kano city.
The Acting Director of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Balarabe Kabara, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday, said the fire started at about 1.40am.
Kabara said the fire, which lasted for over five hours, was however later put off by men of the fire service.
He said the inferno had destroyed goods in two warehouses valued at several millions of naira.
He said the cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained and urged people to be very careful while using fire.
The Chairman of the Traders Association in the market, Alhaji Abulaziz Musa, said the fire started at 1.15am and destroyed food and other essential commodities.
Musa, who described the incident as an act of God, urged the traders to continue to pray to Almighty Allah to prevent future occurrence.
He also prayed to Almighty God to replenish what the traders lost in the inferno.
