The Soun of Ogbomosoland in Oyo State, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, has described late General Benjamin Adekunle as a patriotic and upright Nigerian whose death is a big loss to the nation.
The late general held the traditional title of Ashipa of Ogbomosoland.
The monarch, while acknowledging the noble role played by the deceased in different capacities, called on military officers to imbibe the courageous, bold and selfless spirit of the late Adekunle.
In a statement signed by his private secretary, Toyin Ajamu, Oba Oyewumi said: “The late Ashipa fought tirelessly and victoriously to ensure the unity of the country.
“He is a man that will be forever remembered not only in Ogbomoso, but Nigeria in general.
“He did well for the country.”
Oba Oyewumi added that Adekunle died as a hero owing to his accomplishments in his service to his fatherland.
He urged the deceased’s family and people of Ogbomosoland to take solace in the fact that the late general gave his best to the nation.
He prayed God to grant the departed eternal rest.
