The Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, on Sunday emerged the flag bearer of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the governorship bye-election slated for October 11, 2014.
Mr. Fintiri, polled 624 votes to emerge winner, defeating five other aspirants.
Dr. Ahmed Modibbo, who polled 197 votes came second while a former military administrator of Lagos State, Gen Buba Marwa, had only 54 votes.
According to the Returning Officer of the primary and former Speaker of House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, 23 votes were invalid.
No fewer than 14 persons obtained the nomination forms to contest the primary under the PDP platform..
But, at a meeting conveyed by the leadership of PDP late last week and chaired by Senate President David Mark, eight aspirants, including a former Chairman of EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, stepped down.
However, the withdrawal of the eight aspirants was sequel to an understanding that whoever wins the primary will not participate in the 2015 governorship election.
Should Acting Governor Fintiri win the October 11, bye-election, he will only completes the tenure of the impeached All Progressives Governor Murtala Nyako.
