Super Eagles’ defender, Efe Ambrose, disclosed that he went back to business at Celtic after just a three-day summer break in Nigeria.
Ambrose helped Nigeria reach the last 16 of the World Cup this summer and then bounced straight into Celtic’s Champions League tie against Reykjavik last week.
But heading from Rio to Reykjavik was no problem for the 25-year-old, who admits he’d rather play football every day than lie with his feet up.
Ambrose said: “I spent three days in Nigeria after the World Cup.
“Then I had to fly back here to get a visa for the game in Iceland. That was all the holiday I had – three days. What did I do?
“I play football, of course. I always like to go back and see the team where I started, Adams Babes. Sometimes I like to train and play matches with them but I didn’t have time to do that.
“So it was just a kickabout, really, so that people could see me.
“I started like them and they like it when a player comes back.
“It motivates them to keep trying. I try to encourage them as I have never forgotten my roots.”
On Celtic’s new manager, Ronny Deila, Ambrose said: “I have only trained under the manager once or twice but what I’ve seen is good.
“He wants another kind of creativity in the team and a new way of playing.
“He wants us to keep the ball more and move it quicker.
“The style might suit me. Every manager likes a defender who can keep the ball and drive with it. That is a bonus.
“I think the new manager wants defenders with confidence to keep possession so I feel positive about that.”
