A 25-year-old man, Yusuf Ayilara, on Wednesday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property valued at N900,000 from a Mosque.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is standing trial on two counts of Mosque breaking and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Akpan Nko, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 4, at Ansar-Ud-Deen Central Mosque, Market Road, Badagry area of Lagos State.
Nko said that the defendant stole two pumping machines worth N105,000, one electronic sound amplifier machine valued at N160,000, wireless sound speakers worth N140,000, six ceiling fans valued at N240,000 and two Ox standing fans worth N255,000.
He said that the total value of the property stolen was N900,000 belonging to the Ansar-Ud-Deen Central Mosque, Badagry.
“The defendant ran away from home for three weeks after committing the offence and when he was sighted at home, he was arrested and handed over to the Police for prosecution,” he said.
He said the offences contravened sections 311 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until May 30 for mention.
