Social activist, Aisha Yesufu, has commended the Southern Governors Forum for coming together to take a common stand on some vital issues besetting the region.
The Eagle Online recalls that governors from 17 states from the South under the aegis of the Southern Governors Forum met last Tuesday in Asaba, Delta State, after which they issued a 12-point communiqué banning open grazing, calling for the restructuring of the country and demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari addresses the nation on pressing security concerns, among others.
In a three-minute 44-second video, Yesufu chided those Nigerians, notably from the North, including notable political figures, who are losing sleep over the meeting and expressing their disapproval of the decisions made.
She said: “There is so much insolence and disrespect in this country.
“I see some people coming out to say that the Southern Governors do not have the right to make decisions.
“The decision that you’ve made as Northern Governors, what right do you have?
“So, the Southern Governors suddenly do not have the right to make laws for the people in their own states, but the Northern Governors have the right to make their own laws?”
She commended the Southern Governors for their decisions, and encouraged them to continue.
This, Yesufu said, would eventually work for the good of the country.
She added: “By the time we have the Northern Governors doing their thing, the Southern Governors doing their thing, we will move to that Nigeria that will be better for all of us.
“We will get that restructuring that we’ve been yearning for.”
And in apparent jab at the North, which she noted generally has contributed little to the national purse by way of revenue, Yesufu said: “And it’s not about the population; it’s about what you bring to the table.
“You cannot be the one bringing the least to the table and yet you’re the one with all the mouth, dictating terms.
“My father brought me up telling me that if you want peace, prepare for war.
“Bending backwards never solves anything; being nice every time never gets you where you need.
“I am so proud of the Southern Governors.”
