The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday said the newly registered
All Progressives Congress’s call on President Goodluck Jonathan to
join its ranks was an indication that the party did not possess
serious presidential contenders.
This was contained in a statement by the acting National Publicity
Secretary of the party, Tony Okeke, in Abuja.
“By so doing, the APC has clearly admitted that it has looked within
itself and discovered the bitter truth that it has no presidential
material,” the statement said.
It said that the leadership crisis rocking the opposition party few
days after its registration showed that the APC was a party of
“desperate power mongers”.
The statement further said “the APC has confirmed to Nigerians that it does not believe in the leadership abilities of its prominent
leaders.”
It added that the call on President Jonathan had betrayed the APC “as
a clueless party in dire need of leadership and ideology who seeks to
tap from the PDP.”
The statement added that the APC had looked “inwards and realised that none of those in its fold has the required credentials, charisma and competence to be president of Nigeria.”
It said that the APC had openly showed itself as “lacking in ideology
and in dire need of leadership.”
The statement said “it is only a gathering of confused persons that
will at one moment falsely condemn somebody as inept and incompetent
and the next moment beg him to join them.”
It said that the crisis rocking the APC showed that it lacked the
ability to ensure internal democracy and enforce discipline.
The statement said that the APC would cause chaos if elected into
power at whatever level given the current situation in the party.
