Presidential aspirant commends INEC over APC registration

A presidential aspirant in the 2011 general election, Francis Onabis, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for registering the All Progressives Congress after several attempts by those he described as anti-progressives in the country to scuttle the merger process.
Onabis stated that the registration of APC was an indication that INEC can still be trusted with conducting the next election if it does away with external influences.
Onabis, in a statement signed by his media aide, Ayokunle Oloye, in Lagos on Wednesday, commended INEC’s bold steps to register APC in spite of all the bobby traps placed before the party by mischief makers He noted that the emergence of the new party signals victory for true democracy and Nigerian voters.
He said Nigerians should expect a new era of politicking that will bring progressive development to the country.
He said the new party will give the Nigerian people values for their electoral votes.
He said: “The APC, I am sure, is a government-in-waiting because Nigerians are tired and yawning for a change, a change that would lead to good governance and economic prosperity of our country.
“The registration is a pointer that we are very close to a Nigeria of our dream.”
He described the birth of the party as “an hope giver” to democracy.
He said: “We are now sure that this democracy would make headway.
“If the power that does not want APC can fail, then no power would be allow to subvert our democracy.”
Onabis, who is also a chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria in Uromi Edo State, also commended the leaders and promoter of the new party for their courage and doggedness to ensure the party was not killed.
He said: “I congratulate my leaders, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and General Muhammadu Buhari, for their steadfastness and energy to build this formidable platform that would give birth to the new Nigeria the people have been waiting for.”
Onabis, however, called on all stakeholders to put aside their ego and personal goals but come together to find solutions to the many problems the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has plunged the country into.
He added: “This is time to go back to our ward and local governments and mobilise voters ahead of 2015.
“We must all accommodate others members of our new political family for outstanding performance at the poll.”
