Fire razes 117 shops at Yola market

The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency says a total of 117 shops were burnt by fire at the Jimeta-Yola Ultra-Modern Market on Monday.
Dr Muhammad Suleiman, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Yola on Monday that the incident occurred at 12:57a.m.
Suleiman said: “I received a call at about 12:57 a.m. on Monday that a section of the market is on fire and about 117 shops have been razed.”
“It has no connection with electricity because at the time the incident occurred, there was no electricity supply to the market and its environs.”
He said that the fire might have occurred through a stove allegedly used by meat sellers in the market.
Suleiman said that no life was lost nor was any serious injury recorded during the incident.
