Visiting Enyimba International Football Club and hosts Rangers International FC will on Sunday provide the icing to the cake of thrills during the Easter holiday when they face each other.
Both sides will face each other at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu in a Match Day 9 fixture of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the clash between, arguably, the two most formidable football club sides in the South East will be more than a battle for three points.
Three points are indeed at stake, with Rangers needing them to consolidate their position at the top of the table and lay claim to dominance over the league defending champions.
But the visiting side are also in dire need of the full points, to get their title defence back on good footing after being distracted by ongoing continental competition campaign.
However, football fans from Enugu, Aba and other places in the area will no doubt get more than the value for their money to add to the Easter celebrations.
This is a sure promise, going by the pre-match boasts.
Paul Chibuzo, Rangers’ General Manager, told NAN that football fans and their families would be thrilled to no end with the best of football.
Chibuzo said the match was an opportunity for the Flying Antelopes to ensure they return to that position of regaining their dominance of football in the South East once more.
“We are playing to win to further make a statement that we are not just on top of the league table, but are the only true representative of the South East any time,” Chibuzo said.
He said the club’s management had lined up activities to make “the Easter Sunday Special Match” a memorable one.
The club General Manager said they were as well strategising on how to mobilise a full stadium capacity for the match on Sunday.
Chibuzfo said: “We are carrying out a mini-road show within Enugu to draw a mammoth crowd to the stadium.
“We will also use town-criers and other local means of disseminating information to inform other people on the outskirts of Enugu about Sunday’s ‘Oriental encounter’.
“We are going to serve chilled water, drinks and ‘small chops’ at token fees during the encounter to create relaxation and make the game a memorable one.”
Chibuzo added that football fans and administrators in the South East would witness a re-union on Easter Sunday.
“We know that the match, which we envisage will attract thousands of football fans, will be a meeting place for old friends, colleagues and administrators in the football world,” he said.
However, while Rangers have been making plans both off and on field, Enyimba International FC of Aba have also not been lying idle.
The club’s Team Manager, Deboy Ekweronu, said Rangers would surely be taken to the cleaners on Sunday.
Ekweronu said: “No one should make any mistake about it, we are going to Enugu to beat Rangers once more.
“We will show them class and spectacular play and make a statement to our fans in Enugu on Easter Sunday that we are still the ‘Oriental (South East) champions’.”
NAN reports that Rangers are currently topping the 20-club league table with 14 points from eight matches, while Enyimba are in 17th place with six points from four matches.
