National U-17 women team, the Flamingos, are through to the final phase of the qualifiers for the Fifa U17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan as they completed a double over their Namibian counterparts on Friday.
The Flamingos thrashed hosts Namibia 5-0 in Windhoek to complete an awesome 9-0 aggregate win over the Gladiators and would now face South Africa for a place in the women’s cadet World Cup.
A brace from Cynthia Aku and a goal each from Patience Dike, Rasheedat Ajibade and Yetunde Fajobi ensured the Bala Nikyu’s girls clinically zoom past the Baby Gladiators in the second leg, second round match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
The Flamingos confirmed their superiority as Dike put the visitors in front in the ninth minute.
In the 37th minute, the Nigerian girls increased their tally to 2-0 through Aku who struck before the half time break.
Five minutes into the second half, the Flamingoes continued from where they stop as Aku netted her second and Nigeria’s third goal of the day to silenced the home fans.
In the 70th minute, Ajibade stretched the lead to 4-0 to confirm their dominance against the defence of their helpless hosts.
Fajobi completed the rout in the 84th minute when she grabbed the fifth for Nigeria.
The Flamingos have now qualified for the final round and will play South Africa in March as they haggle for one of the three tickets for Africa at the 2016 Fifa U17 Women’s World Cup billed to take place in Jordan.
