President Muhammadu Buhari has on Sunday sent a powerful delegation to the ancient town of Dikwa in Borno State where some Internally Displaced Persons are taking refuge in temporary camps.
The delegation was led by the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima.
It also included the Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Muhammed Kanar.
The delegation was received by the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Mohammed Ali Gana, who conducted Shettima and his team round the IDP Camp, clinic and kitchen among other places.
Shettima said: “I am here as an emissary of President Buhari.
“We are here to commiserate with the people of Dikwa, Ngala, Kala-Balge, Mafa and Marte who have congregated in Dikwa town and to assure you of his unflinching support and empathy.
“I bought a message of hope from President Buhari that insha Allah, all effort must be on board to see that your communities, your schools and your infrastructures, destroyed by the demented monsters of Boko Haram, would be rebuilt in the new year in the first quarter of 2016.”
Shettima commended all stakeholders in the local government and other donor agencies, especially the North East Zonal Office of NEMA for their roles in catering for citizens of the state who have suffered from insurgents attacks.
The Governor was accompanied on the visit by the outgoing GOC of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Lamidi Adeosun.
NEMA has been partnering with the Borno State Emergency Management Agency and other humanitarian stakeholders in the rehabilitation of over 1.5 million individuals and communities affected by insurgency in the North East region.
The agency has been providing providing relief materials, tents, drugs and medical services to communities recently liberated from insurgents control.
