Thirty-two candidates of various political parties are locked in the battle for the lone Benue State governorship seat, the News Agency of Nigeria is reporting.
Records obtained from the state Independent National Electoral Commission office showed that the contestants include the incumbent, Dr. Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party, and former member of the House of Representatives, Emmanuel Jime of the All Progressives Congress.
Other contenders include Pastor Frederick Kyaan, People’s Redemption Party; Dr. Stephen Akuma, National Conscience Party; and Dr. Sam Zuga of the Nigeria People’s Congress.
Others are John Tseayo, All Progressives Grand Alliance; Dr. Sam Abah, United Progressive Party; Richard Gbawuan, Zenith Labour Party; Dr. Paul Angya, Labour Party; and Dr. Stephen Hwande, Social Democratic Party.
Also in the contest are Caleb Nyikwagh, Action Congress; Terhile Ayua, Young Progressive Party; Charles Aha, Progressive People’s Alliance; Comfort Angula, National Renaissance Party; and Bishop Jim Okewu of the Action Democratic Party.
The INEC records also indicated that 432 candidates are in the battle to secure the 34 slots in the state House of Assembly.
