A group under the auspices of the Higher Movement for Nigeria has asked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to vie for the presidency in 2023 general election.
Ishiaku Kelo, the Convener of the Osinbajo for President, made the call at a rally on Wednesday in Bauchi, Bauchi State.
Kelo said the group does not belong to any political party, but were working to ensure Osinbajo joins the presidential race.
He said: “We organised a rally to call on Mr. Osinbajo to come and contest because he has the best qualities to succeed his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2023.
“Osinbajo is the most qualified to be president.
“He has been there and he understands the terrain more than anyone.”
Kelo described Osinbajo as a leader with vision and mission that transcends tribal sentiments.
Murtala Jalam, Co-Convener, said that Osinbajo was the kind of person Nigeria needs at the moment.
Jalam said: “Already history has itself chosen a man and that man is Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, well grounded and adequately prepared.
“Tested and trusted hand, with the right temperament, the intellectual firepower and governance ethos best suited for this moment.”
Also, Peace Edward stressed that Nigerians need a leader with integrity, passionate, with impeccable credentials, tested and proven to deliver the Nigerian dream for the good of the citizens.
Edward said: “Osinbajo stands tall above all others as the most qualified for the job.
“Your Excellency, your country needs you now.
“Although Osinbajo hasn’t expressed interest in running for the office of the president, we are calling on him to join the race.”
