The Enugu State Boxing Association has started seven- days camping for the state boxers ahead of the upcoming 2018 National Sports Festival in Abuja.
Speaking to News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Monday, the Chairman of the association, Osondu Ogbu, said that the camp opened on Saturday.
He said that 12 boxers were in camp to undergo intensive- reparation for one week, adding that they would head for Abuja for the sports fiesta straight from the camp.
The chairman expressed the hope experience from the camp would help the boxers to keep in tip-top shape for the task ahead.
He stressed that creditable performances by the boxers at the NSF boost their chance of representing the country at the upcoming All Africa Games and Commonwealth Games.
In his contribution, the state boxing Coach, Blaise Udeh, expressed gratitude to members of the association for their proactive stance and vowed that the boxers would do the state proud.
Udeh said: “I have confidence in the boxers under my tutelage as they are all capable of doing well at the festival.
“We are not going there for jamboree, but to surpass our previous performance.”
NAN reports that Team Enugu won 1 silver and a bronze medal in the 18th edition of the National Sports Festival in Lagos in 2012.
The 19th edition of the 43-year-old competition is billed start from December 6 to December 16 in Abuja.
