The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in Osun State, Chief Ademola Ishola, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of going after the party’s National Chairman, Chief Olu Falae, for not supporting his presidential bid.
Ishola, who was reacting to the allegation that the N100 million received by Falae was part of the $2.1 billion meant for purchase of arms and ammunition in the fight against Boko Haram, said the money was a gift from the Peoples Democratic Party, which sought for the SDP’s support for its presidential candidate, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
He said Falae never received any money from a former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, as being alleged.
He stated that President Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress, were out to destroy Falae because the former presidential candidate and his party did not support them during the last election.
According to Ishola, during the last presidential election, the SDP had a working agreement with the PDP to support Jonathan since “the SDP has no presidential candidate”.
He added: “As a party, we have no presidential candidate and our party endorsed the PDP’s candidate. And we agreed on principle and the PDP and not Dasuki released the sum of N100 million for mobilization of all our teaming members across the country to support Jonathan and the PDP.
“This is a rubbish talk that Falae took N100 million from Dasuki. The said money was declared by Chief Falae to the party and over N5 million of it was received by and party, the SDP in Osun State.
“President Buhari and the APC were only engaged in a smearing campaign against our leader because they don’t want any opposition to speak against all their anti-peoples’ policies.”
