The Court of Appeal on Thursday validated the elections of four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
By so doing, the court threw out the petitions filed by their opponents who are members of the All Progressives Congress.
Top on the list of those whose petitions challenging the election of the PDP candidates was thrown out is former Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd.
Lloyd challenged the election of Hon. Sam Ogeh for Emohua State Constituency.
Also, the Court of Appeal dismissed appeals filed by Sir Collins A. N. Owhonda and Eric Apia, both of the APC, challenging the elections of Blessing Nsiegbe and Hon. Martins Manna.
Also dismissed was the appeal filed by the APC candidate for Obio/Akpo Constituency 1, Collins Ordu, against the election of the Leader of the State Assembly and PDP candidate, Hon. Martins A. Amaewhule.
The Court of Appeal in upholding the elections of Amaewhule, Manna of Ahoada East State Constituency 2 and Nsiegbe of Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2, stated that the petitions by the APC candidates lacked merit and therefore dismissed them.
The petitions filed by the APC candidates were sequel to the March 19, 2016 rerun Legislative Assembly Elections in the State.
The petitioners had earlier lost at the Elections Petitions Tribunal.
The Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, Bro Felix Obuah, described the development as a vindication of the party as well as confirmation that the people of the State actually voted for the PDP and are in love with the party.
Obuah congratulated “all the courageous and unperturbed PDP candidates on their electoral victories”, urging them to remain steadfast as they have always been and to begin to roll out their best for the people of the land.
