The Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union says it will confer an “Outstanding News Coverage Award” on the News Agency of Nigeria.
The Secretary to the union, Henry Odugala, said in a statement in Abuja on Friday that RATTAWU had recognised NAN from a historic review of the activities of media organisations in Nigeria.
Odugala said: “RATTAWU believes that corporate award of honour and recognition is a positive feedback to an individual or organisation whose performance and achievement have inspired others and are widely appreciated.’’
Odugala said the union had recognised NAN as a formidable broadcast medium in Africa that transmitted Nigeria’s culture and values to the global audience across the borders of Africa.
According to him, NAN remains a centre for integrating Nigeria’s diverse values into a single commodity of world class standard for global appeal.
He said: “It is equally noted that NAN has a track record of excellence that is not clouted by religious, tribal or gender sentiments.
“Of a truth, NAN has served as a veritable instrument for preserving the unity of Nigeria through its professional news production, excellent and qualitative programming.
“It is based on aforementioned roles and numerous others that RATTAWU is constitutionally empowered to recognise workers in the broadcast media and cultural sector including NAN.”
The union’s scribe said the award ceremony would take place on October 20 at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja at 6pm.
