Claudio Ranieri insists Jamie Vardy and Ahmed Musa will form a potent partnership for Leicester City, but admits the club’s record signing still needs to adapt to the Premier League.
Musa has already shown glimpses of why City were willing to spend £16.6 million on him this summer as he pushes for a second Premier League start against Swansea.
After scoring a stunning brace against Barcelona in pre-season, Musa was one of the few stand-out performers in the opening-day defeat to Hull.
Musa should also have won City a late penalty in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal, but referee Mark Clattenburg waved away the protests.
However, there are still questions over whether Musa and Vardy are “too similar” to play together in a front two, with Musa having run into the spaces that Vardy usually does at Hull.
Ranieri believes that is because Musa still needs to get to grips with Leicester’s style of play and the pace of the Premier League.
“They connect well,” he said. “It is important that Musa understands how we play.
“The Russian league is very different from English football, they play a slower tempo. The English league is very fast.
“In the last 10 minutes (against Arsenal), he played very well and created a lot of chances. He must increase his fitness and understanding.
“He can play together with Vardy – we bought Musa because he can play wide and behind striker as well. It’s a good choice for me during the match.”
