President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday met behind closed doors with the Principal Officers of Nasarawa State House of Assembly in what Peoples Democratic Party Deputy National Chairman, who also attended the meeting, Uche Secondus, described as consultation.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Musa Mohammed, led some key leaders of the House of Assembly to the meeting.
The Eagle Online gathered that the meeting was at the instance of President Jonathan, to see how the embattled Governor, alhaji Umar Tanko Al-Makura, could be saved from the impeachment hanging on his neck.
Approached by State House correspondents after the meeting, the Speaker declined comment.
Mohammed said: “It is a private visit.
“I don’t have the mandate of the State Assembly to brief the press.
“Chairman of the House Committee on Information has the mandate to speak to the press on anything concerning impeachment.”
Also, Secondus would not speak about what was discussed.
According to him: “It’s consultation.
“I can’t say whatever now.
“We are consulting.”
The Assembly had on Wednesday directed the state Chief Judge to constitute a seven-man probe panel to look into the 16-count allegation bothering on corrupt practices levelled against Al-Makura., who is a member of the All Progressives Congress.
