A youth group in Bayelsa, Ogbia Brotherhood Youths Wing, has described reports linking former President Goodluck Jonathan to Niger Delta Avengers as “malicious and unreasonable”.
The leader of the group, Dr. Laguo Gilbert, who spoke with newsmen on Tuesday in Yenagoa, described the former president as a man of peace and father of modern democracy in Africa.
Gilbert, however, decried the activities of militant groups in the region, stressing that Bayelsa State is suffering the adverse effect.
He said: “The activities of the militant groups in the region are equally affecting the people of Ogbia, just like every other Nigerian.
“We have been on the same page with other concerned Nigerians to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
“We will not allow unreasonable utterances against the name of the former president.
“Jonathan has recorded tremendous contributions toward nation building and he is still consistent in that position.
“We wonder why detractors and enemies of progress would at this time come up with falsehood to intentionally deceive the public and discredit the former president.
“The Ogbia kingdom condemns and rejects the wicked elements, who are the instigators of the reports.
“We warn that this must stop as time for elections are far gone.
“What is required now is reasonable contributions toward moving Nigeria forward.”
