Ifeanyi Ubah FC of Nnewi will on Sunday fight for the top spot on the table as they engage Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in the Week 14 fixtures of the Glo Premier League.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the match would be the club’s second on their new home ground, the Rojenny Stadium, Oba, near Onitsha.
The team had been playing their home matches at the Gabros Stadium also in Nnewi.
The Anambra Warriors, as they are now fondly called, are currently third on the table with 23 points after seven wins, four losses and two draws in 13 games.
Ifeanyi Ubah are trailing Sunshine Stars of Akure and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi, who are occupying the first and second positions respectively on the table.
Sunshine has 26 points while Wikki has 23 from the same number of matches.
The Bauchi side are also coming with an advantage of two wins against Taraba FC (1-2) and Sharks of Port Harcourt (3-0) after the break.
Notwithstanding, the Ifeanyi Uba boys will be relying on the fire power combination of Uchechukwu Onyedikachi and Solomon Enudi, who had collectively scored five goals in their last two matches.
With Sani Kaita and Chubuzo Okoronkwo, the team, no doubt, boasts of two vastly experienced footballers on the local scene at the moment as both would most likely hold on tightly at the midfield and the defence.
Chidiebere Eze, who had twice now been invited to the national camp, would be expected to be in goal to maintain a clean home run for the Anambra Warriors.
Coach Mitko Dobrev told NAN that his side had trained hard for Wikki that he described a good side.
Dobrev added, however, that his approach to the match would be to go for victory and that he had already fine-tuned his strategy ahead of the game.
The coach said his players were in good condition and training on schedule.
He said: “You know my style has always been to play for victory.
“There are no problems with my team as every player is in good shape.
“We are training because we know Wikki is a good team, with a good coach, good tactics and so we are not leaving anything to chance.
“For us, what matters is aiming for the top of the league and earning a place on the continent.”
Meanwhile, Rangers International of Enugu, currently 11th on the table with 17 points, are expected to salvage their declining image this weekend against the league leaders, Sunshines of Akure.
The cash-starved Stanley Eguma led Dolphins of Port Harcourt, currently 17th on the table, will try to end their poor runs as they meet Kano Pillars at away.
