The Muslim Rights Concern has warned said the alleged plan by the Peoples Democratic Party to cripple the campaign camp of the main opposition party in the country, the All Progressives Congress, by freezing the bank accounts of its financiers and grounding their private jets was an invitation to anarchy.
MURIC, reacting to the allegation levelled by the APC over the weekend, said it would amount to tyranny and oppression.
In the statement by its Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, MURIC said it deems it necessary to alert Nigerians and the international community to the dangers inherent in the development and cloud lead into a slide into a one-party cum police state.
The statement added: “By embarking on such desperate manoeuvres after being in power for sixteen years, the Peoples Progressive Party has exposed itself as an intolerant institution.
“We cannot envision a free and fair election in an atmosphere of suppression. There can be no true democracy if the opposition cannot enjoy a level playing ground, nay, if the opposition is being strangulated.”
