No fewer than 12 shops, 14 rooms and properties worth millions of naira were on Tuesday razed in Kwami, Gombe State.
Malam Abdulrahaman Mohammad, one of the victims, told newsmen that the incident occurred at about 8am due to alleged power surge.
Mohammad said the properties were burnt to ashes as most residents, mainly policemen, were unable to save anything from their rooms.
According to him, the incident started from a house before the fire spread to shops in the vicinity.
Mohammad said that the fire was controlled with the assistance of fire service men in the area, which deployed three fire engines.
Musa Umar, another victim said that he lost a lot in the incident, but thank God as no life was lost.
Umar also thanked officials of the fire service and people in the community for their effort in putting out the fire.
Hauwa Joseph, another victim, said that when the incident happened, she was at the farm and neighbours helped to evacuate goods from her shop.
She thanked the people for their support and appealed to government to come to their aid.
Alhaji Aliko Abdullahi, District Head of Kwami confirmed the incident and called on those affected to regard it as an act of God.
Abdullahi appealed to the state government for immediate assistance to the victims.
