The Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has said just as his party, the All Progressives Congress, dealt with the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2011 state and National Assembly polls, no single seat would be left for the opposition in the February elections in the state.
Aregbesola stated this at the Iwo Federal Constituency electioneering where the governor began his campaigns for all the candidates standing for elections in all the senatorial districts, federal and state constituencies in the state at the weekend.
The campaign tour took Aregbesola to Iwo, Ola Oluwa and Ayedire Local Government Areas, which form the federal constituency.
He told the huge crowds that came out at Iwo Ogbagba, Telemu, Ile Ogbo and Oluponna that the Yoruba people never had anything in common with anti-progressive political parties.
He stated that Yoruba people have always pitched their tents with the progressives since the First Republic.
The governor noted that for the 16 “odd years” under the PDP, Nigeria has not gained anything meaningful and enduring.
He enjoined voters in the local government areas and the whole state to vote for all the candidates of APC across board.
Aregbesola urged the people of the Osun West Senatorial District to vote Senator Isiaka Adeleke (Senate), Abdulgahafar Amere (Federal House of Representatives) and Hon. Akinloye Ajibola (Ola Oluwa Constituency for the House of Assembly); Leke Ogunshola for Aiyedire and Abdulahi Gbadebo for Iwo, for qualitative representation and good governance.
Aregbesola emphasised that the victory of the August 9 governorship election in the state would be boosted with the party securing all the seats available both in upper, lower and the state legislative chambers.
He urged the people to also vote massively for the presidential candidate of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, come February 14.
Aregbesola held that the much needed change that Nigerians are clamouring for can only be achieved when a progressive party like the APC is in power.
He said: “I want to use this opportunity to thank you for standing behind us during the last August 9 governorship election.
“We have again come back to solicit for your support in ensuring that we maintain a clean slate in the coming presidential and legislative elections.
“We are confident that with all we have done in the last four years, which to us is just a tip of the iceberg, contrary to insinuations that work has stopped, the state will begin to witness completion of all ongoing projects and introduction of new ones where necessary.
“The state and the party will achieve more if we have quality representations in our state House of Assembly and the Federal Houses of Representatives and the Senate.
“To this end, we implore some of us, who have not collected their Permanent Voter Cards to do so.”
Aregbesola averred that the February 14 and 28 elections are as significant as that of August 14 governorship election in the state.
He added that with the APC controlling the central government, Nigeria will witness all round development and positive turnaround of the nation’s lost glory.
Notable among candidates and aides of the governor from the area who accompanied the governor on the tour of the Federal Constituency were Adeleke; Amere; the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti; former Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Mofolake Adegboyega; and the Director of the Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Semiu Okanlawon.
All the elective positions in the federal constituency are currently occupied by members of the APC.
