The Defence Headquarters has said the girls sighted in two coaster buses on Tuesday evening at the Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, Borno State may not be the girls abducted by members of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram, from Chibok.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, had earlier on Tuesday told a section of the media that the release of some of the girls was part of the “ongoing process” for all of them to regain freedom.
The girls, numbering about 300, were abducted by Boko Haram on April 14.
However, after the initial announcement sent joy throughout Nigeria and beyond, the Defence Headquarters said the story was uncertain.
Olukolade said he was unable to establish contact with the military formations in Borno State.
