The Ogun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Monday rejected the result of elections in Ogun East Senatorial District and the House of Representatives seats from the same zone.
The two Federal constituencies, according to the party were Remo North/Ikenne/Sagamu and Ogun Waterside/Ijebu East/Ijebu North, which were won by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Ogun East Senatorial District was won by Prince Buruji Kashamu of the PDP, while the APC won the other two senatorial districts of Ogun Central and Ogun West.
The APC also won seven out of the nine House of Representatives seats from the state.
Addressing a press conference conference at the party’s secretariat at Iyana Mortuary in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the Deputy Director General of the APC campaign organisation in the state, Asiwaju Bisi Adegbuyi, alleged that the elections were marred by irregularities.
Adegbuyi said many undemocratic processes, including intimidation of voters, manipulation and falsification of results, amongst others marred the result of the election.
The party also indicted security operatives for looking the other way when most of the alleged offences were being committed.
It said the result of the elections as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission did not reflect the wishes of the people, adding that they were not only predetermined but were manipulated.
Adegbuyi said: “We are particularly compelled to notify the entire world through your media of the undemocratic practices that attended dedicated the elections in Ogun East Senatorial District.
“The APC hereby categorically states that last Saturday election in the Ogun East Senatorial was marred by gross irregularities, inducement and intimidation of voters, manipulation and falsification of the results.
“The results that were announced by the INEC do not reflect the wishes of our people in the zone.We therefore reject the results particularly the one from the East. We want the entire world to know that results as announced by INEC reflect pre determined, manipulated and fictitious figures forged by a rigging machinery of PDP led by Kashamu.
“The APC is determined to challenge the results of the zone and the two House of Reps seats within the confine of law. We have incontrovertible evidence of manipulation that took place and the roles played by certain individuals.”
But in a swift reaction, Buruji described the allegation as unfounded and lacking in substance.
He said the APC should challenge him at the tribunal.
Kashamu, who reacted through his media aide, Austin Oniyokor, also queried the results of the two other senatorial districts won by APC adding that PDP will take appropriate action.
He said: “The claims by the APC are totally unfounded. Ordinarily, we would not have dignified them with a response. You can see that the statement is loud in noise and lacking in substance. If they say there was rigging, intimidation and manipulation during the election, they should supply the details, rather than hiding under some nebulous excuses that say nothing.
“At any rate, the Electoral Act has made provision for the ventilation of issues arising from an election. They should go to the tribunal to prove their case. We will meet them there. If they say we rigged the only senatorial district that we won fair and square, it is also safe to say that they also rigged Ogun West and Ogun Central senatorial districts.
“Where did they get the over 100,000 votes that they posted for their candidate in Ogun Central and the outrageous figure for their candidate in Ogun West? We believe that the party will speak better on these issues at the appropriate time.”
