The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ebonyi, Emmanuel Uzor, has described the death of Uwakwe Abugu, his Enugu State counterpart, as devastating to journalists in the South-East.
Uzor, a close colleague of Abugu, expressed his feelings in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Wednesday.
He said he was utterly shocked by the news of the death of his colleague.
Abugu who was appointed CPS by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in 2015, died on Monday in a hospital in India, after a protracted illness.
Before the appointment, he was the South-East Bureau Chief of New Telegraph newspaper.
Uzor said: “I heard about it early this morning and I had to call few colleagues in Enugu to confirm the unfortunate news.
“What a disaster. How short this life is. Losing hard working, calm and humble Abugu to the cold hands of death is highly devastating.
“It is even more devastating to most of us who had close relationship with him, especially our colleagues in the journalism profession within the South-East.’’
Uzor noted that Abugu worked and proved to all that “professionalism can be achieved with diligence,’’ and prayed for the repose of his soul.
