The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has ordered shut the state-owned university, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.
A statement on Saturday by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, said the decision was taken to forestall violence.
Students of OOU have been protesting the high fees being charged by the state government.
Though the state government has twice reduced the fees, the students said it still remained high and unaffordable to the majority.
The students, along with students of other higher institutions in the state have protested in the last few weeks over the high school fees.
Adeoluwa accused OOU students of being the only institution that has continually resorted to violence during its protests.
His statement said the government was aware of another protest being planned by the students, which could also lead to violence, hence the need to close the school.
Amosun had last week met with the students of the university after another round of protest.
He promised to look into their demands.
He never met the students again or communicated with them until he ordered the university shut on Saturday.
