The Accident Investigation Bureau said it has started investigation of the ground collision between a Boeing 777-200LR, belonging to Emirates Airline, and a B737-400, owned by HAK Air.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Commissioner of AIB, Dr. Felix Abali, disclosed this on Tuesday while inspecting the scene of the incident at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Abali promised that a speedy investigation would be conducted to unravel the cause of the collision, which occurred at about 9.30p.m. on Monday.
He said: “Every incident is a safety issue that must be thoroughly investigated.
“This will help in preventing accidents and sustain safety in aviation.
“This investigation will be conducted with speed.”
Abali said the aircraft; marked A6-EWD, was taxiing for a take-off en-route Dubai when its wing tip cut into the B737-400 aircraft parked on the apron of the domestic wing of the airport.
Abali said that while the Emirates aircraft had a little damage on its wing tip, the Hak Air’s B737 sustained substantial damage.
According to him, the Emirates flight was aborted and the passengers evacuated immediately.
He said the AIB promptly deployed a team of investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding the serious incident with a view to making possible safety recommendations.
