Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has relieved six of his commissioners of their duties for showing interest in the 2015 general elections.
The affected officials include the Commissioner for Industry and Non-Formal Sector, Ugochi Nnannah-Okoro; and the Commissioner for Internal Resources and Pension Matters, Nick Oparandudu.
The two are aspiring to contest for a seat in the Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone).
Others are Commissioner for Finance, Chike Okafor; and Commissioner for Information, Dr. Theodore Ekechi, who are planning to be members of the House of Representatives.
The Commissioner for Public Utility, Dr. Ifeanyi Nwachukwu, and his counterpart in the Primary, Secondary and Non-formal Education Ministry, Dr. Uche Ejiogu, are aspiring to be members in the House of Assembly.
A statement, signed by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Pascal Obi, disclosed this information in Owerri on Thursday.
The statement said the governor had directed the affected commissioners to hand over to their permanent secretaries on or before September 19.
Okorocha thanked them for their services and commitment to his administration and wished them well in their future political pursuits.
