No fewer than 11 women were delivered of babies at the Internally Displaced People camps in Delta State in the aftermath of the flooding of the state.
This was revealed by the National Emergency Management Agency in a statement by its Head, Public Relations, Yushau Shuaib.
The statement put the number of persons registered by NEMA as IDP as 53,489 in Delta and Anambra States.
Reliefs and Rehabilitation officials of NEMA confirmed that 28,764 IDP were registered in 11 camps of the 14 affected local government councils in the Delta State as at Friday (today).
Shuaib added: “At least 11 pregnant women were successfully delivered of their babies in the camps with the help of paramedics.”
As reported earlier by The Eagle Online, a woman gave birth to a set of triplets in one of the camps in Anambra State.
The triplets were all boys.
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Friday visited the flood ravaged states of Delta and Anambra States.
