Zonal volleyball league to kick off

Nigeria Volleyball Federation has approved April six as the date for the kick-off of the zonal volleyball league in the country.
A board member of the federation and coach, Japhet Nuhu, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the league was part of the plans for a stronger and better national league.
Nuhu said that it was unprecedented in Nigeria’s volleyball history which, according to him, is a demonstration of the resolve by the federation’s board to reposition the game to its place of pride.
He said: “All the six geopolitical zones will be expected to produce two teams that will represent them at the national league.
“While we are waiting for that, registration of clubs is ongoing in the zones.’’
The coach, who described the development as welcome, said that it was time to elevate the nation’s volleyball to global limelight.
Nuhu expressed confidence in the viability of volleyball in Nigeria, saying that its biggest challenge was sponsorship.
He commended the federation for rising up to the occasion which would go a long way in revitalising the sport, especially at the grassroots.
Nuhu added: “There is hope for volleyball in Nigeria with the coming league, the youths are at advantage, particularly the interested ones.’’
