Zamfara to spend N1b on Conditional Cash Transfer

The Zamfara State Government says it plans to spend N1 billion in the implementation of its newly introduced Conditional Cash Transfer Programme.
The state’s Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Ibrahim Birnin Magaji, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen in Kano on Thursday.
He said the programme which is expected to commence soon, would improve the socio-economic condition of the targeted beneficiaries.
He said government would use Save the Child International module to implement the programme in all the 14 Local Government Areas of the state.
He said: “The state government is trying to use Save the Child International module in implementing the programme.
“The Save the Child International under its health care programme granted CCT to pregnant women in two LGAs of the state which the state government is now trying to copy.’’
He said Save the Child International had so far disbursed about N4 billion to beneficiaries under its health care programme in the two LGAs.
He said: “This is in addition to similar programme to be implemented by the Federal Government under the office of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.’’ He said six LGAs two from each of the three Senatorial Districts were selected for the implementation of the federal government’s CCT programme.
NAN reports that Birnin Magaji was in Kano to attend the workshop on strengthening states’ capacity in ensuring sustainability of results for children through social policy.
He said enumerators had been dispatched to the field to collect data for the implementation of federal government’s CCT programme in the state.
The commissioner said the state government in collaboration with donor agencies had rehabilitated a number of hospitals under the state health care programme as part of effort to bring health care services to the door steps of the people.
He commended UNICEF and the federal government for initiating the meeting which would enable the participants to develop social policies to promote the wellbeing of the vulnerable.
