Mohamed Salah is set to shrug off his injury doubts to start Egypt’s World Cup opener against Uruguay this afternoon.
Salah’s participation in the showpiece tournament in Russia was thrown into doubt when he was forced off in the first half of Liverpool’s Champions League final against Real Madrid just over a fortnight ago.
Salah, who turned 26 today, badly damaged his right shoulder after falling heavily on it after locking arms with Sergio Ramos, but has made a sensational recovery in time to feature in Egypt’s first game.
Egypt and Uruguay are joined in Group A by hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia, who meet in the tournament’s first match of the tournament.
The Pharaohs’ second game is on Tuesday against Russia in St Petersburg.
