A Senior Agriculture Economist at the World Bank, Dr. Adetunji Oredipe, has commended the Federal Government for not embarking on policy summersault in the agriculture sector.
Speaking on the newly-launched agriculture policy of the Buhari administration during an NTA Network News monitored on Monday evening in Abuja, Oredipe said the donor community was initially apprehensive on what will become of the policy in the sector as the government of President Muhammadu Buhari was not only new, but also of a different political party from the preceding administration.
According to the Agriculture Economist: “The fear has however been positively addressed with the new policy document launched today (Monday).
Oredipe expressed the hope that with the full participation of financial institutions like the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank of Agriculture and the Bank Of Industry, the “issue of finance for agriculture will be finally resolved as the donor community will support the initiative”.
Oredipe commended the “selectivity in the process of participation with involvement of the state and local governments, broadening of focussed crops to include live stock and the change of fertilizer from general to location based utilization”.
