A 55-year-old woman, Mrs Lola Odeniya, has reportedly gone missing in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
It was learnt that on July 26, the woman boarded a tricycle from her home at the Yakoyo area of Ofada and headed for Mowe market to buy balloon for her sick husband around 9am, but never returned.
The family waited for her for about five hours believing she would return home, but she has not shown up since then.
Her daughter, Damilola Odeniya, said it was the balloon a medical doctor recommended for her father that her mother went to buy.
She said, “When my father couldn’t talk well, a medical doctor recommended that he should be blowing balloon. It was the same balloon my mother went to the market to get for him when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“We have visited hospitals and mortuaries to confirm if she is involved in a road accident.
“Her phone line was going through till 9pm that fateful day and nobody picked the calls. After some time, the phone went off and it was not going through again.
“It was then we went to Mowe police division, where they promised to track her phone number and we also went to the network service provider whose line she is using to help track it.”
The family believes the woman may have been abducted, even though no one has contacted them for ransom demand.
Damilola noted that her mother is an easy going person and she didn’t have any issue with anyone that could warrant her being kidnapped. She appealed to those behind the act to free her.
She said: “That was not the first time she had been going to Mowe market to buy something. My father is still lying in his sick bed. Those who abducted her should please for the sake of God free her and allow her to go home freely.
“I am also appealing to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to assist in rescue my mother and bring her back alive. We also contacted the tricycle riders’ association park in Mowe.
When the Ogun State command police public relations officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, was contacted, he didn’t pick his calls and also did not respond to the text message sent to him.
