The man who raped his seven-month-old step daughter in Katsina State, Salisu Magaji, has adduced reasons for his action.
Magaji spoke on Friday during his parade alongside other suspects arrested by the police in the state for various offenses.
Magaji, of Mamadi village in Jikamshi Local Government Area of Katsina State, said he had a dream where he was directed to rape an infant.
He said it was revealed to him in his dream that he would stopped womanising if he slept with the seven-month old baby.
He said: “I actually defiled the baby girl.
“It was not for money ritual purpose.
“I actually had a dream about the incidence because I womanise a lot.
“My wife is late.
“She delivered six children for me.
“I thought God had helped me overcome the habit of going after women until when I married this woman.
“So it was revealed to me in the dream that if I raped this girl I would stop womanising.”
The baby is said to be in critical condition at the Turai Yar’adua Maternal and Child Hospital.
Speaking while parading Magaji with 18 others arrested for various crimes, the Commissioner of Police, Usman Ali Abdullahi, described the rising rate of rape in the state as pathetic.
Abdullahi said rape cases in the state have become outrageous.
He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, parents and teachers among others to help reverse the trend.
He said 100 cases had already been recorded in less than one year.
