The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party says it would not be drawn into further argument with the All Progressives Congress government of Rotimi Amaechi in Rivers State for the use of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt for its presidential rally.
Consequently, the PDP said it would host President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, its presidential candidate, on Wednesday for the presidential campaign at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
The state government had said the venue was not yet fully completed and as such could not be used for the rally.
However, a few days back, soldiers took over the stadium.
The PDP described the excuse given by the state government as flimsy.
It said the stadium is the property of Rivers State people and not that of Amaechi or the APC.
The PDP further noted that besides the fact that APC had used the stadium twice, it does not have any right far and above the PDP to deny it the use of the facility.
The party said it was pertinent to remind Amaechi and the APC that the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium was executed in 2009 when Amaechi was still a member of the PDP.
Against this background, the PDP challenged Governor Amaechi to show the Rivers State people one project he had executed since his defection to the APC.
The party called on Rivers State people to ignore the antics of Amaechi and the APC and turn out en masse to give President Jonathan a befitting welcome on Wednesday.
