The Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police says it has deployed officers of the anti-fraud agency to arrest a former Kwara State Governor, now senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
According to the spokesperson of the SFU, Ngozi Isinume, the decision to arrest Saraki was taken since it had been established that no court granted him any injunction restraining the police from arresting the senator over an N11 billion loan that went awry from Intercontinental Bank.
Isinume said: “Since it has been discovered that there is no injunction restraining us, we are arresting Senator Bukola Saraki.
“We don’t need to declare him wanted.
“We are arresting him.”
The decision to arrest Saraki is the peak of the drama that has been playing out between the police and Saraki in the last few weeks.
The former governor was invited for questioning two weeks ago but he did not honour the invitation.
Rather, he headed to the court, asking for a restraining order.
He explained that he had been interrogated so many times over the issue without being declared guilty.
