Water sector pivotal to food security, power generation – Perm Sec

The centrality of the water sector to the President Goodluck Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda in agriculture and power generation was brought to the fore on Thursday at the meeting between the management staff of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the new Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Umar Faruk.
The meeting, which had in attendance the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Godknows Igali, highlighted the need for the Ministries of Power and Water Resources to work together to deliver power to Nigerians.
According to Igali, the ministry had built a good number of dams for flood control and irrigation purposes and some of these dams have the capacity for power generation.
Therefore the two permanent secretaries pledged to work together for the attainment of food security and uninterrupted power supply.
The meeting ended with a formal hand over of the Water Resources Ministry to the new Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Umar Faruk.
